O MY FRIEND IN WORD! Ponder awhile. Hast thou ever heard that friend and foe should abide in one heart? Cast out then the stranger, that the Friend may enter His home.
-- Baha'u'llah
Overall, this selection from The Hidden Words gives me a sense of power and calm.
More specifically:
- friend in word: Our word is our power, the way that we create. It's our integrity. The Scripture, the Word of God is often referred to as the Creative Word.
- friend and foe: My friend, my foe. I determine my relationships.
- Cast out: I choose to do the casting out, no one is going to do it for me.
- that the Friend may enter His home: The Friend is the one who belongs in my heart -- my best self, my mirror that reflects divine attributes.

That's a profound interpretation. I always thought of "friend in word" as meaning you're being a friend in word, but not in deed.
ReplyDeleteWell, here it goes:
ReplyDelete-Friend in word: Friend in faith, or fellow believer.
-Friend and foe: Reminds me of "Love thy enemies". Forgiveness and seeking the best in others.
-stranger: someone who does not have my best interests in heart
-The Friend: The Holy Spirit, or Manifestation of God. A true friend. Love, trust, sacrifice, counsel.
-Cast out: I must cast out feelings on ill will and discard selfish motives to make room for the virtues of true friendship, so that I can be united with God and feel His presence in my life.
I must say, I love looking at these different interpretations. I know that I can always learn something…see things from a different perspective. Thank you for sharing your perspectives on this blog. You are a true seeker, my friend. I hope you find everything you are looking for…your “best self”. Then don’t forget to share her with all of us.
